Hi Emma,

Let me ask you... which of the "rules" in Deuteronomy 22 does your church still uphold?

Does you church still stone people caught in adultery to death?

Does a woman's parents have to prove her virginity to her prospective husband?

Does your church make women who are raped marry their rapist?

All of these things are commanded in Deuteronomy 22. Does your church still practice them?

I sure hope not.

That's because we read these verses in context. We understand that the world was very different back then, and it would be foolish (even immoral) to apply these rules to our modern day world.

Aside from that, I see no command here that forbids pre-marital sex. Can you see one? If you can find one in the Bible, please let me know.

Thanks for reading!

Dan
